Some Favorite Christmas Gift Suggestions

Wheeler 89 piece deluxe Gunsmithing screwdriver kit

You had better start giving suggestions if you want some useful gifts for Christmas. Here’s some I rely on regularly….

The above picture is the Wheeler 89 piece deluxe gunsmithing screwdriver kit that includes bits for getting deeper into guns than most folks will ever go, so a better choice may be the Wheeler 72 piece kit. It may be more practical for you and is a bit less money. These bits are made for gunsmithing and have the proper flat ground profile to preserve every sharp screw edge you start with. Hardware store screwdrivers are ground at an angle and don’t fill the screw slot properly.

Hoppes green rifle cleaning mat

For stocking stuffers grab a few Hoppes rifle and shotgun mats. They have a fluid-proof backing to prevent oils and solvents from soaking through onto your kitchen table, ensuring that your wife won’t have to bonk you with a rolling pin for ruining the woodwork. They are machine washable.

Tipton gun vise

You need a stable platform for working on your guns, and the best I have found is the standard Tipton gun vise. It is impervious to chemicals, has very functional padded vise jaws and places to put your screws and tools while working. There is a deluxe version also that is called the Tipton Best gun vise that I find useful mostly for double guns and AR types.

Leupold Mark 4 torque wrench

If you use 1913 style rings or mounts with 1/2″ nuts, do yourself a favor and invest in the Leupold Mark 4 65 inch pound torque wrench. With this and your favorite 1/2″ socket (not included) you can instantly remove and install your parts tightened to the exact specifications that manufacturers require, and as long as you replace the optic in the same place it came from you will ensure that your return to zero will be as close as possible.

Wheeler Fat torque wrench

For other screws and nuts to be tightened to the proper specifications, the Wheeler Fat torque wrench comes with 10 bits and can be adjusted for the proper torque for anything from aluminum rings to stock bolts.
